    Best for: Small businesses and startups that want their chatbot to actually bring in revenue, not just answer FAQs.

    Most AI support tools treat customer conversations as problems to be solved. Converzoy treats them as opportunities.   • The problem

    Here's the deal. Fin charges $0.99 per resolution. That sounds reasonable until you do the math. If Fin resolves 5,000 conversations a month (which is literally the point of buying it), you're looking at $4,950/month just for the AI. On top of your $29/seat base cost. So the better it works, the more expensive it gets. That logic never sat right with us.

    3. Zendesk AI Agents - If Money Isn't an Issue

    Best for: Large companies already on Zendesk with big support teams and thousands of tickets per day.

    Zendesk is the 800-pound gorilla here. Their AI layer adds automated resolution, smart ticket routing, and an agent copilot on top of what's already one of the most established ticketing systems around.

    If your company already runs on Zendesk and you have the budget, adding their AI is the obvious move. Starting from scratch though? There are way simpler options.

  • The problem

    Where to begin. The AI add-on has to be purchased for your entire team. You can't trial it with a few agents first. Automated resolutions cost $1.50 to $2.00 each. The Copilot tacks on another $50/agent/month. Implementation typically takes 6+ weeks. We talked to teams paying $100 to $300 per agent per month when everything was added up. That's a lot of money.

    Pricing: Suite starts at $55/agent/month. AI resolutions cost $1.50+ each. Budget at least $150/agent/month total.


    4. Tidio (Lyro AI) - Cheap and Cheerful for Small Shops

    Best for: Small Shopify or WooCommerce stores that want basic AI chat without a big commitment.

    Tidio is probably the easiest tool on this list to set up. Run a small online store? You can have Lyro answering customer questions in minutes. It plugs right into Shopify and WooCommerce, and the free tier lets you kick the tires without entering a credit card.

  • The problem

    Fifty conversations. That's what the free tier gives you. A busy store burns through that in a couple of days. But the real annoyance is the billing structure. Lyro (the AI) and Flows (the automation builder) are separate add-ons. So your actual bill ends up higher than the pricing page suggests. Once you're doing a few hundred conversations daily, you'll probably need to graduate to something bigger.

    Pricing: Free for 50 conversations. Lyro starts at $39/month. Growth plan is $59/month.


    5. Freshdesk (Freddy AI) - Good If You're Already in Freshworks

    Best for: Companies that already use Freshworks and want to add AI without switching platforms.

    Freddy AI is Freshdesk's play in the AI support space. It chats with customers, suggests replies to agents, summarizes tickets, detects sentiment. If your team already lives in Freshworks, Freddy drops in without any migration pain.

    What we liked

  • The agent copilot actually helps. Good for writing replies and translating messages.
  • 500 free AI sessions included, so you can properly test before committing
  • Workflow actions let it look up orders, process refunds, that kind of thing
  • At $0.10/session after the free tier, it's one of the cheaper per-interaction options out there
  • The problem

    You need to be on the Pro or Enterprise plan to even access Freddy. If you're on a lower tier, it's a non-starter. There's also a weird email bug where it only replies to the first message in a thread. And the resolution rates? Freshdesk says "up to 80%." Real-world numbers we've seen range from 23% to 75%. That's a massive gap.

    Pricing: Requires Pro plan. Freddy Copilot is $29/agent/month. Sessions are $0.10 each after 500 free.


    6. Drift (by Salesloft) - Not Actually a Support Tool

    Best for: B2B sales teams that want chat-based lead qualification and meeting booking.

    We included Drift because it keeps appearing in "best AI customer support tools" lists. But let's be clear: Drift is a sales tool. It qualifies leads and books meetings through website chat. That is what it does. Full stop.

    If that's what you need, great. If you're looking for something to handle support tickets, answer customer questions, or manage a knowledge base, keep looking.

    What it does well

    No knowledge base. No ticketing. No support automation whatsoever. And the pricing starts at roughly $2,500/month with no free trial. Since the Salesloft acquisition, we've heard from multiple teams that support quality has dropped. Most new features seem to serve Salesloft's broader sales platform vision. If you're a small or mid-size team, this is not the tool for you.

    Pricing: Starts around $2,500/month. Annual contracts only. No free trial.

    So Which Alternative Should You Pick?

    It depends on where you're coming from.

    Switching from Intercom or Zendesk because the pricing got out of hand? Converzoy is the strongest alternative. Free to start, flat pricing, and the conversion focus is something neither Intercom nor Zendesk offers.

    Not ready to leave Intercom but want to stop the bill from growing? Keep Fin but audit how many resolutions you're actually paying for. You might be surprised.

    Locked into Zendesk but frustrated with the cost? At least push back on the Copilot add-on. $50/agent/month for reply suggestions is steep.

    Running a small online store and Intercom/Zendesk is overkill? Tidio. Way cheaper, built for e-commerce. Watch the conversation limits though.
